Keep It Simple

Jun 7, 2026    Pastor Duane Butler

This powerful message calls us back to the simplicity of our faith in Christ, drawing from Colossians 3 and Matthew 6:33 to remind us that our spiritual lives don't need to be complicated. We're challenged to understand that our true life is hidden with Christ in God—not something we discover through worldly experiences, travel, hobbies, or self-care journeys, but through seeking Him. The early Colossian church faced attacks from two sides: Jewish legalism demanding adherence to strict traditions, and Gnostic mysticism reducing Jesus to merely an enlightened teacher. Sound familiar? Today we face similar pressures—church politics, social media comparisons, and worldly philosophies that complicate what should be beautifully simple. The core message - Keep it simple: love God, love His people. We're reminded that Christ has already done the work—we're qualified not by our own righteousness but by His grace, forgiven not just for past sins but for future ones too. This isn't a license to sin but an invitation to appreciate the blood of Jesus and live holy lives. As we celebrate graduates moving forward, we're all called to move forward in spiritual maturity, practicing patience and long-suffering with one another, refusing to become the kind of church people who once hurt us, and embracing the simplicity that is in Christ.
