God is a Keeper

Dec 21, 2025    Pastor Duane Butler

This powerful message invites us into the profound mystery of God as our Keeper, revealed through the symbolism of the Ark of the Covenant and the precious gift of Christ. We discover that inside the Ark were three treasures—the tablets of the Law, Aaron's budding rod, and the manna from heaven—each pointing prophetically to Jesus as the Word made flesh, our chosen High Priest, and the Bread of Life. The most striking revelation comes through understanding the manna: when the Israelites tried to keep it overnight in their own hands, it bred worms and stank. Yet that same manna, placed inside the Ark in God's presence, remained fresh for centuries. This teaches us a transformative truth about the divine exchange at the heart of our faith. Whatever we try to control and keep in our own hands eventually spoils—our relationships, our children, our resources, our very lives. But when we offer these things back to God, He keeps them fresh and multiplies them back to us. We're challenged to examine what we've been holding onto that has been spoiling: shame, guilt, unforgiveness, fear, people-pleasing, or the inability to forgive ourselves. The blood of Jesus provides the ultimate divine exchange—He takes our heavy burdens and gives us His easy yoke of peace and joy. This Christmas season, the greatest gift we can offer God isn't material—it's surrendering our hearts, our struggles, and our need for control, trusting that God is indeed a keeper.
