Distractions
This powerful message invites us into a masterclass on spiritual discipline, drawing from the ancient story of Cain and Abel in Genesis 4. Before Cain committed murder, God warned him that sin was crouching at his door, ready to pounce—but that he must master it. This becomes our challenge too: we live in an age of constant distraction, where we can be so busy doing good things that we miss God himself. The sermon explores the story of Martha and Mary, where Martha was distracted by serving while Mary chose the better part—sitting at Jesus' feet. We're challenged to examine not just what distracts us, but more importantly, what we're being distracted from. Are we so focused on not doing wrong that we forget to say yes to God's Spirit? Are we distracted by political turmoil, social media, or even our own busyness, missing the presence of Christ in our midst? The two trees in Eden—the tree of life and the tree of knowledge—remind us that we always have a choice. True love, faithfulness, and loyalty require options; otherwise, our devotion means nothing. This message calls us back to the fundamentals: prayer, worship, spending time in God's presence, and choosing the narrow way that leads to life rather than being consumed by everything else clamoring for our attention.
