The Narcissistic Mind

Oct 4, 2026  •  Pastor Duane Butler

What if the greatest threat to our spiritual freedom is not something happening out in the world, but something happening right in our closest relationships? This message takes us deep into a rarely discussed but profoundly important territory: the narcissistic mind and how it operates in our everyday lives, our families, our workplaces, and even our churches. Drawing from 2 Timothy 3, we are shown that the signs of the last days are not only written in global headlines but in the very patterns of behavior we encounter with the people around us. Pride, self-absorption, the inability to receive correction, a lack of true empathy, and a need for constant admiration are not just personality quirks. They are spiritual conditions with roots that trace all the way back to the fall of Lucifer himself. We explore the stories of Samson and Delilah and the troubling figure of Diotrephes in 3 John to see how these patterns have always existed among God's people. The invitation here is not to judgment but to discernment, and ultimately to freedom. When we learn to identify these behaviors clearly and honestly, we stop lying to ourselves, stop enabling harm, and start walking in the truth that Christ died to give us.
